Charles R. “Chuck” Mansell

Chuck Mansell (June’67) is an American War Hero who was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action during the Vietnam War.
This is the General Order accompanying his decoration:
“Private Mansell unhesitating and with complete disregard to his personal safety, fearlessly exposed himself to the hostile fire in order to recover seriously wounded comrade ignoring the murderous hail of enemy fire striking all around him. Private Mansell successfully evacuated the wounded trooper to safety.”
Chuck also received the Bronze Star for outstanding service, the Purple Heart for being wounded in action, and an Army Commendation Medal for distinguished ground operations.
In 1975 Chuck and his wife sponsored a Vietnamese family to come to the United States.
After his discharge he joined the St. Louis Police Department and had a twenty-three-year distinguished career, during which he received two Chief’s Letters of Commendation, and two department awards of excellence for his work as a police detective. During this time, he also earned a degree in business at night school from Webster University.
After he retired from the police force, he went to work for Mercantile Bank, becoming a licensed corporate safety advisor and a certified fraud examiner. He accepted a position as vice president of company security from Commerce Bank in 2005 and remained there until his retirement in 2012.
Military service, public service, and business: all areas recognized by our Hall of Fame, and Chuck Mansell excelled in all three.
