GORDON GOODIER (June 1956)

Gordon Goodier (June ’56) is an oil man who spent forty-three years with Shell Oil Company in a variety of senior positions, representing Shell and the oil industry to the American public.
Although Gordon began his career in oil marketing, he later moved into public and governmental affairs. He was placed in the key role of managing the company’s response in 1986 during the attempted international boycott of Shell as a subsidiary of the South African company, Royal Dutch/Shell. Working with the American Petroleum Institute, he became heavily involved in the industry’s public relations efforts.
Gordon was the chairman of the API general committee on communications as well as president of La Concha Sports Facilities Inc., a Shell Oil-owned company holding Shell’s interests in various sports venues. In addition, he oversaw Shell’s community outreach and youth training activities for minority populations in several major cities with a significant Shell presence.
Since retirement Gordon and his wife have become heavily involved in philanthropy. Their major emphases have been supporting higher education, social services through the Salvation Army and Arms of Hope, research for Alzheimer’s disease, and support for organizations educating youth in the American free enterprise system.
