Merceina Louise (Weiss) Parker

Merceina Weiss Parker (June 1931) excelled in tournament tennis play for more than fifty- five years. She won more titles than any other player in St. Louis history. Merceina won the Missouri Valley Women’s Doubles Championship at age fourteen while she was a student at Roosevelt.

She was the St. Louis District Champion a record fifteen times from 1935 to 1958. She also won seventy St. Louis Muny  titles including fifteen Women’s Singles titles, also a record. Merceina won the National Public  Parks Women’s Doubles in 1940 and 1946 and the forty and over Singles and Senior Mixed Doubles in 1966. She won four USTA National Senior titles.

Merceina was inducted into the St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame and the Missouri Valley Tennis Hall of Fame in 1991. She made numerous contributions as a teacher, coach and tournament official including heading the District Junior Training Program for two decades.
