Ward Stevens Parker

WARD PARKER (Jun 1931)
Ward Parker (June 1931) was St. Louis ‘ most prolific tennis champion with over one hundred local titles including a record twenty-seven city doubles championships. He won numerous Missouri Valley titles and the National Father/Son title with his son, Jim, in 1960 and 1962. Ward won the National Public Parks Senior Mixed Doubles with his wife, Merceina, and the National Senior Olympics Doubles with Ralph Hart.

Ward, Hart and Merceina ran the District Junior Training Program for two decades. He was a past president of both the Muny and District Tennis Associations. He and Merceina ran the Esquire Senior Tournament for more than thirty-five years.

Ward was inducted into the Missouri Valley Tennis Hall of Fame in 1991 and the St. Louis Tennis Hall of Fame in 1995.

He was a coach at Soldan-Blewitt High School and had championship teams in tennis, swimming and cross country. Between 1979 and 2000 he won over two-hundred medals in various Senior Olympic events.
